Things to Do in Fort Worth

From historic cattle drives and western entertainment to outstanding museums and beautiful gardens, discover the best of Fort Worth.

Fort Worth offers a wonderful combination of traditional Texas experiences, cultural attractions and outdoor activities.

Whether you are visiting for a day or planning a longer stay, there is plenty to discover beyond the city’s famous cowboy heritage.

Here are some experiences I would include in your itinerary.

Explore the Fort Worth Stockyards

The historic Stockyards are an excellent place to begin your visit.

Walk along Exchange Avenue, browse the western shops and enjoy the atmosphere of this famous Texas district.

Try to catch the Fort Worth Herd cattle drive, when Texas Longhorn cattle are guided through the historic streets.

You can also explore the Stockyards’ restaurants, live music venues and western entertainment.

Discover the Cultural District

Fort Worth has an impressive collection of art museums.

The Kimbell Art Museum is known for its remarkable architecture and international art collection.

Nearby, the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth features modern and contemporary works in a striking building surrounded by water.

The Amon Carter Museum of American Art is another excellent stop for visitors interested in American art and history.

Visit the Fort Worth Botanic Garden

If you want a peaceful break from the city, spend some time at the Fort Worth Botanic Garden.

Its beautiful landscaped grounds, walking paths and Japanese Garden make it a lovely destination for a relaxing afternoon.

Enjoy Sundance Square

Sundance Square is the heart of downtown Fort Worth, offering restaurants, shops and entertainment.

It is particularly pleasant in the evening, when you can enjoy dinner and explore the surrounding streets.

Explore the Fort Worth Zoo

The Fort Worth Zoo is a popular attraction for families, featuring animals from different parts of the world and a variety of educational experiences.

If you have time, combine a visit to the zoo with a walk through nearby Trinity Park.

My advice is to spend at least two days in Fort Worth. That gives you enough time to enjoy the Stockyards, explore the museums and discover the city’s restaurants without rushing.
