  • Public Transport, Walking and Local Travel Tips

Discover the easiest ways to explore Fort Worth, Texas, from downtown streets and historic neighbourhoods to the famous Stockyards and cultural attractions.

Fort Worth is a large Texas city with attractions spread across several neighbourhoods. While downtown is relatively easy to explore on foot, visiting the Stockyards, museums and other destinations often requires some form of transportation.

Fortunately, there are several ways to get around Fort Worth, whether you prefer public transport, taxis or the flexibility of a rental car.

    Explore Downtown on Foot

Downtown Fort Worth is a great place to start exploring the city.

Sundance Square, with its restaurants, shops and entertainment venues, is particularly pleasant for walking.

You can also explore nearby historic buildings and enjoy the atmosphere of the city centre without needing a car.

However, distances between Fort Worth’s main tourist districts can be considerable, so plan your journeys accordingly.

    Getting Around by Bus

Trinity Metro operates local bus services connecting downtown Fort Worth with surrounding neighbourhoods and attractions.

The Route 15 bus provides a useful connection between downtown and the historic Fort Worth Stockyards, making it a practical option for visitors who want to experience the city’s famous Western heritage.

Check current routes, fares and departure times before travelling.

    Using TEXRail and TRE

TEXRail connects downtown Fort Worth with DFW International Airport, stopping at several stations along the way.

The Trinity Railway Express (TRE) connects Fort Worth with Dallas, providing another option for visitors exploring the wider metropolitan area.

Both services connect with Fort Worth Central Station, an important local transportation hub.

    Taxis, Rideshares and Rental Cars

Uber, Lyft and traditional taxis are convenient alternatives for travelling between attractions.

If you plan to explore several neighbourhoods, visit destinations outside the city or make day trips around North Texas, renting a car can provide greater flexibility.

My tip: Explore Sundance Square on foot, take public transport to the Stockyards and consider a rideshare for attractions that are less convenient to reach by bus.
