Getting Around Fort Worth – Car, Bus and Train

Fort Worth is a large city, and its attractions are spread across several districts. Getting around is straightforward with a little planning, but the right transport choice depends on whether you are staying downtown or exploring the wider area.

Driving
A car is useful for visiting multiple neighborhoods in one day and for excursions outside the center. Keep in mind that parking costs and availability vary by destination. Traffic can be busy around commuter periods and major events, so allow extra time rather than scheduling every stop too tightly.

Public transport
Trinity Metro operates local transport services, including buses and rail connections. TEXRail provides a connection between Fort Worth and DFW Airport, while other regional services can help with journeys across the Dallas–Fort Worth area. Routes, frequencies and fares change, so consult official transit information before traveling.

Walking and rideshare
Downtown Fort Worth and the Stockyards each have areas that are enjoyable to explore on foot. However, walking between these districts is not the same as walking within them. Rideshare services can help bridge gaps between attractions, especially in the evening or when bus schedules are inconvenient.

A practical sightseeing strategy
Group nearby attractions together. Spend one day around the Stockyards, another in the Cultural District and an evening downtown. This reduces unnecessary journeys and gives you more time at each stop. If you do not plan to rent a car, choose accommodation near the places you most want to visit. Fort Worth becomes much easier to enjoy when you treat it as several interesting neighborhoods rather than one compact city center.
